Furniture Care Information

Our furniture is made by craftsmen from high quality selected solid wood and veneers. Just as each tree is unique, so is each piece of furniture with it’s own grain, knots and colour. With just a little care you will be able to keep it in good condition for many years.

General Care

The appearance of wood will mellow and develop rich subtle tones over a period of time due to the effect of daylight. To prevent uneven shading from developing, objects placed on furniture should occasionally be moved to different positions.

Position objects carefully and avoiding sliding to prevent the surface from being marked.Protect the furniture against hot items by using tablemats and cloths. Use a protective mat or pad when writing to prevent the surface from being marked.

Avoid placing furniture in positions of direct sunlight, next to strong sources of heat such as a fire or radiator, or near air conditioning units, which can cause excessive drying of the wood. This can cause the wood to warp or crack and loosen joints. Damp conditions must also be avoided as they can cause wood to expand and change shape, causing drawers not to run freely and flat surfaces to become uneven.

When moving furniture, always lift rather than drag, to prevent damage to the joints.

The metal handles do not need polishing as they have their own protective lacquer.

Take a minute to ensure your furniture is level. The fit of doors and drawers can be adversely affected if it is not standing level. The graduated wedges that are supplied with some items are useful for this. They can be inserted under the furniture to take out any unevenness and then the portion that is protruding snapped off so that they cannot be seen.

Quadra, Bordeaux, Lincoln, Oregon, Denver Ranges

Remove spillages and liquids promptly with a blotting action to prevent marks.

The furniture is finished with a durable lacquer as the final stage of a hand finishing process and requires only a normal amount of care. To clean the furniture, it can be wiped over occasionally with a very well-rung damp cloth and then a soft dry duster.

Do not use chemical cleaners, bleach, solvents or abrasive pads on the furniture.

An occasional application of a good quality clear wax polish may help to keep the furniture looking good and provide a little extra protection to surfaces that have heavier use. Danish oil should not be used on the furniture. If you wish to polish the furniture please keeping mind that it may make the surface appear shinier. We advise against the use of traditional paste wax polish and suggest that a light spray type wax is more appropriate. Any polish should first be tested in an inconspicuous area to ensure that you are satisfied with the results before use.

Camden and Painted Furniture

The lacquered wooden tops of the Camden range can be cared for in the same way as the Quadra and Denver ranges (see information above).

The painted bases can me cleaned by wiping with a well-rung damp cloth dipped in some mild soapy, warm water. No not use any chemical cleaners or abrasive pads on the furniture. Wax polish or oil should not be applied to the painted surfaces.
